Formula at a glance

Amount
4 active ingredients
Serving size
2 capsules
In the bottle
60 capsules · 30 servings
Benefits

• Cranberry extract standardized to 12:1, so you get the concentrated fruit without the juice and the sugar.*
• D-mannose, a simple sugar found in cranberries and other fruits.*
• Pine bark extract for antioxidant support.*
• Vitamin C for normal everyday wellness.*

How it works

Cranberry juice contains very little of the fruit's active compounds and a great deal of sugar, which is why UroDefend uses a standardized 12:1 extract instead. D-mannose and pine bark extract round out the formula, and vitamin C adds antioxidant support.* The formula was built for women and men.

About the formula
UroDefend combines cranberry extract, D-mannose, pine bark extract, and vitamin C. Evidence for individual ingredients is mixed and does not establish that this combination prevents infections. The label states a cranberry extraction ratio; it does not provide a standardized proanthocyanidin (PAC) amount.
Who it's for

• Adults who want a simple daily wellness habit*
• Women and men; the formula was built for both
• Anyone who has been drinking cranberry juice out of habit and wants the fruit extract without the sugar

Are the amounts per capsule or per serving?

The Supplement Facts amounts are per two capsules. One bottle contains 60 capsules, providing 30 two-capsule servings.

Does UroDefend prevent or treat UTIs?

It is not a treatment for an active infection. Evidence for individual ingredients cannot establish that this finished combination prevents UTIs. A large 2024 D-mannose trial did not show a prevention benefit.

Can I use it with antibiotics or other medicines?

Ask your prescribing clinician or pharmacist to review the complete formula. Do not stop or delay prescribed treatment to use a supplement.

Randomized human trial: negative finding

D-mannose & recurrent urinary tract infection

Hayward et al. · JAMA Internal Medicine · 2024

Study design
598 women with recurrent UTIs · 2 g D-mannose daily · six months
What it found
D-mannose did not significantly reduce medically attended, clinically suspected UTIs compared with placebo.

Systematic review of randomized trials

Cranberry products & urinary tract infections

Williams et al. · Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews · 2023

Study design
50 randomized trials with 8,857 participants · cranberry juice, tablets, or capsules, mostly compared with placebo or no treatment
What it found
Cranberry products reduced the risk of symptomatic, culture-confirmed UTIs overall (moderate-certainty evidence), including in women with recurrent UTIs, in children, and in people made susceptible by a medical intervention. There was little or no benefit in older adults living in care facilities, pregnant women, or adults with bladder-emptying problems. No difference in risk was shown between low, moderate, and high doses of cranberry PACs.

D-mannose powder & recurrent UTIs in women

Kranjčec et al. · World Journal of Urology · 2014

Study design
308 women with a history of recurrent UTIs, after antibiotic treatment of a bladder infection · 2 g D-mannose powder daily, 50 mg nitrofurantoin (an antibiotic) daily, or no preventive treatment · 6 months, no placebo
What it found
Recurrent UTIs occurred in 14.6% of the D-mannose group, 20.4% of the nitrofurantoin group, and 60.8% of the group with no preventive treatment. Side effects were mild in both active groups and less common with D-mannose than with nitrofurantoin.

Vitamin C & urinary tract infections during pregnancy

Ochoa-Brust et al. · Acta Obstetricia et Gynecologica Scandinavica · 2007

Study design
110 pregnant women · 100 mg vitamin C daily with iron and folic acid, or iron and folic acid alone · 3 months, with monthly urine cultures
What it found
Urinary tract infections occurred in 12.7% of the vitamin C group and 29.1% of the group without vitamin C.
